Back To The League

SAFC Ladies Face Arsenal

Sunderland Ladies return to league action with an away trip to fourth place Arsenal. The Lady Black Cats currently sit sixth in the league but are just one point behind the Gunners.

Captain Lucy Staniforth, who has been in fine form scoring three goals in the last two games, is full of confidence ahead of the trip to London.

“We’re really looking forward to the game against Arsenal,” said Staniforth. “It’s a massive opportunity to test ourselves again and one in which we will be well prepared and ready to put in a good performance. We’ve had a full week of training in the build-up, which has been very competitive.

“We know that Arsenal possess a lot of quality but we also know that come Sunday we are going to fight for everything, stay concentrated and be dangerous when we get in the final third.”

The captain knows a thing or two about being dangerous in the final third, she is currently the Lady Black Cats top scorer after getting three goals in the last two games. Will she be looking to make it three games in a row on Sunday?

“It’s not something that I think about a lot,” admits Staniforth. “I just keep working hard in training and if I score and help the team then that’s a bonus.”

Sunderland Ladies travel to Arsenal on Sunday, kick off 2pm. You can keep up to date with the game via the SAFC Ladies Twitter account.
