Lady Black Cats' Unbeaten Run Comes To An End At Liverpool
Sunderland Ladies suffered their first defeat of the WSL Spring Series against a strong Liverpool side at the Select Security Stadium.
Caroline Weir and Natasha Harding both scored in the first half, and Weir added a second just before the hour before Casey Stoney scored late on.
Melanie Reay's Sunderland hadn't conceded a goal in the Spring Series before their trip to the North West, but they came up against a side who have now dropped only two points in their first five games of the competition.
Weir put the hosts ahead with an effort from 30 yards out before Harding put the hosts in control.
Maddie Hill came close for Sunderland early in the second half but saw her effort clip the outside of the post.
Ultimately, there was no way back for Sunderland as Weir grabbed her second of the match before Stoney bundled the ball home from a corner to complete the scoring.
The Lady Black Cats, who suffered their first defeat in four games, now turn their attentions to the visit of Chelsea on Sunday 21 May.
