Lady Black Cats through to quarter finals of the FA Cup

The lady black cats came from behind to go through to the quarter finals of the SSE FA Women's Cup.

Victoria Williams got the team off to a great start as she tapped in from 6 yards in the 5th minute.  Villa keeper Rogers then made a couple of good saves from Staniforth and Pitman in the 8th and 10th.

Sunderland were made to pay for wasted shots on goal when Aston Villa's pacey youngster Salmon broke into the box and scored the equaliser on 24 minutes.

After more wasted chances in the second half Salmon was again on target on 57 to put the visitors 1-2 up.

Two goals in the last 11 minutes from Pitman and substitute Ramshaw respectively saw the ladies through to the quarter finals.

Head coach Melanie Copeland said "we had to dig deep today.  Aston Villa made it really difficult for us.  Desire, character and mental toughness are all signs this team is getting better."  Copeland continued "we had three different goal scorers today which is good that the goals are coming from all areas of the team.  We are happy to be in the draw for the quarter finals."
