The Annual 'season-opener' for the ADFL held on Sept 3rd hailed a success.
For the third year running now, the local 'grass-roots' Football League in Andover opened the curtain on the 92nd consecutive season with the annual 6 a-side tournament and despite the number of entries dropping from the original 20 to 14, it was hailed a success!
Playing in a format of four mini leagues with the winners in each League playing the runners up for a place in the Final and those finishing 3rd and 4th competing for the Cliff Allsop Memorial Shield, there was plenty of glory to go for!
Wolversdene 213 came away with the top prize of the 6 a-side Cup beating Ludgershall in the final and Wycombe Warriors surprised even themselves by taking the Cliff Allsop Shiled in an emphatic win in their final.
Several of the more established Clubs were expected to head up the 'favourites list' with A.B.C. Utd, winners for the last two years, and new Clubs, Broughton Res and Andover New St Swifts also expecting to be there at the end, were all found wanting when it came to the deciding knock-out stage.
If this is to give any idea of how the season might progress, then there may be a few surprises around the corner.
The League games kick off in earnest with some mid week fixtures scheduled before the main programme will get underway on Sat 10th Sept.
