Winscombe 6-0 Swiss Valley Rangers

Winscombe were on the back foot from the kick off as Rangers started strongly, forcing a fine diving save from Winscombe keeper Ben Meakin. This was the wake up call that Winscombe needed and some fine play saw Rangers pinned back in their own half for long periods. Toby Chambers had a couple of long range efforts well saved by the Rangers keeper. The breakthrough eventually came when a probing Piers Langford cross found debutant Billy Berry in enough space to turn and lash the ball home. Moments later a similar move saw Jack Drake delivering a well placed cross to Billy Berry whose goalbound effort was deflected in by the predatory Max Bretherton to give Winscombe a two goal advantage. Rangers almost pulled one back just before half time with a superb effort from outside the area which curled just wide of the Winscombe goal.
Rangers again began the half the stronger side with Winscombe defenders Will Shergold, James Hart, George Fairchild, Philip Skinarland and Theo Thornton Matthews being well tested but the defence showed great awareness and concentration in keeping Rangers at bay. Winscombe gradually got back in to the game with James Ford hitting the post from long range and soon afterwards a neat Will Shergold pass released James Ford who ran through with only the keeper to beat and he made no mistake. A demoralised Rangers side were now struggling to contain Winscombe wingers Matthew Gilmore and Piers Langford who were both pushing forwards at every opportunity. A fierce Matthew Gilmore cross from the left to James Ford allowed the striker to bag his second goal. Soon afterwards a Piers Langford cross from the right again found man of the match James Ford who hit the ball sweetly on the volley, completing his second half hatrick in only ten minutes. Piers Langford then turned from provider to scorer as he drove a loose ball in the Rangers penalty area home. Jai Nevison covered every blade of grass on the pitch for Winscombe with another fine performance in central midfield. Credit to Swiss Valley Rangers who played some good football but were unlucky to find Winscombe in such good form.
