Marquis Into County Semis...Cup Round-Up...

Marquis United have gone from the last 32 to the last 4 of the County Cups in just 3 weeks, writes Darren “Statto” Jones.

Senior Cup Quarter Final:
A tremendous performance from Marquis United saw them go one up through a fantastic Andy Pilgrim strike from fully 30 yards which flew into the top corner. Ashwell ‘keeper Adam Lawrence was maybe fortunate to escape a red card for un-intentionally handling outside the box, after Barry Hazelton had attempted to go round him. It was comfortable until Craig Reynolds was sent-off for a second yellow card and the equaliser came with 15 minutes to go. With ten men, United dug deep and showed great character and took the lead when Bobby Dance flicked on for Glen Lamacraft to round the ‘keeper and slot home. Another equaliser followed moments later and it was a hammer blow which seemed to indicate extra-time. However, with just two minutes to go, Lamacraft broke clear and made a great choice to cross for Hazelton, who headed into an empty net for a dramatic winner. They will travel to Radlett to play Belstone in the semi-final.

KLM Challenge Cup Round 1:
Gary Linehan netted via a deflected free-kick to give Stevenage Old Town the lead before he and Billy Reedman squandered chances to end the game. Reedman finally did net to put them two in front before Asa Common’s header gave Walkern Construction a consolation.

Division 3 Cup Preliminary Round:
A brace from Lewis Essam saw Emperors Head into the quarter-finals after seeing off Times Club. Stuart Smillie and Ben Collins were also on target, whilst Daniel Mitchell and Paul Dowse replied.
