Sam Archer, penalty save put Hermit through...

Poor Day In General In Intermediate Cup...

Herts Intermediate Cup:
TC United secured a win in dominant fashion as they defeated Bennetts Hemel in Redbourn. Terry Lock made up for a first-half penalty miss by firing in at the near post before brother Jimmy Lock slotted under the goalkeeper to double the lead. Substitute Jon Dunne completed the scoring late on when his fine effort went in via the under side of the crossbar.

Reece Arbon (two), Frazer Triggs, Jamie Campany, Martin Rees, Sean Grainger scored as Marquis of Lorne won a ten-goal thriller at BTH Athletic.

Stevenage Leisure Limited won their first-ever County Cup game with a solid win at Radlett Road. The reliable Carl Smith opened the scoring before he also saw a penalty saved and the ‘keeper denied him with another great save. Just before half-time, good work by Chris McCarthy produced the second. Joe Chilton added another before the home ‘keeper scored from his own half with a freak goal. His celebrations were short-lived as direct from the kick-off, Smith curled his kick from the halfway line over him and into the net. A late penalty from Radlett didn’t affect the game.

Billy Joe-Sewell’s penalty put Stevenage Fencing in front at the break against Old Fullerians. A second-half brace from David Hailey was just enough as they won by the odd goal in five.

Injury forced Rickie Nash into the Hermit of Redcoats goal. The stand-in made a couple of good saves early on before Finchley United went in front after Mark Roskilly’s clearance was pounced on. Top scorer Josh Dance equalised before the break from a free-kick. An Ade Barry header hit the bar and Nash just prevented an effort from going over the line at the other end. Dance tucked away a penalty to seemingly put them through, but in the final minute, a header from a corner forced extra-time. Sam Archer entered the pitch in goal and played through pain as Nash went outfield. An away goal was scored before Lee Metselaar equalised via a goalmouth scramble. Dance, Nash, Metselaar and Sawyer scored in the shoot-out before Archer beat away the fourth kick from Finchley after they’d missed the third.

FC Squirrel finally caved in after extra-time. Gaz Baker, Matt Keane and an equalising lob from 20 yards from substitute Tom Manning only delayed the inevitable as Six Bells ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Despite an even game, the difference was that Hadley Green took their chances when they came, three times in total before the break. A1 Trophies came into there own with some lovely passing and a crisp ball to Reece Munford saw the striker net across the ‘keeper. Soon after it was Munford again causing hassle in the box and he earned two penalties in quick succession. The first from Greg Bradbury was saved before Munford scored himself. Some great build-up play culminated in Paul Tully drilling home an equaliser. It was all in vain as Hadley netted the winner with five minutes to go.

SCS went down to a single goal against Church End.

Stuart Rowe, Steven Fahey were on target for Broadhall Reserves, but Stevenage Outsiders came from Hitchin to put them out.

Putterills were beaten at Cuffley, Dave Banks scored their goal.

Dan Welch was Mallard Old Boys’ sole scorer at Hatfield Seniors, but the hosts won comfortably.

A depleted Shephall Artois suffered a blow, going down to ten men after just five minutes when Antonio Scatigno duffered a bad injury, diagnosed later as a broken foot. Footy Pants took advantage to hit half-a-dozen. Alex Welch bagged a consolation.
