Marquis Utd and Bedwell Fly The Flag A mixed day in the County Cups on Sunday, writes Darren “Statto” Jones.

Senior Cup 4th Round:
Ean Browne and John Johnston were on target to bring Broadhall level against PJ Hitchin. However, two goals in extra-time saw the visitors through to the last eight.

Senior Cup 3rd Round:
Our last hopes are Marquis United, who made it through to the last 16 after beating Oxhey Estates by the odd goal in five. Barry Hazelton (two) and Craig Reynolds grabbed the important goals.

Junior Cup 5th Round:
Bedwell Rangers showed great determination and guts as they met PSV Shades from Hertford. In a very tight first-half, they found themselves a goal down after Jamie Fannon-Hall conceded a 17th minute penalty. Despite this setback, they grew in confidence and quickly found themselves level following a scrambled goal from Danny Bacon in the 25th minute and yet another Luke Smith goal five minutes later following excellent work from Bacon. Just as it seemed they would go into the break ahead, PSV equalised with a header from a corner. Three goals in nine minutes put the result beyond doubt. Firstly, on the hour, Smith converted a spot-kick, Alex Willcocks added another with a bullet header from Jamie Morris’ corner and that man Smith completed his hat-trick. The visitors notched with ten minute left, but Smith bagged his 24th of the season a minute from time to ensure Bedwell are the league’s last representative in this competition. Joint-managers Stephen Swain and Craig Grieves cannot praise the lads highly enough for the performance against very good opponents. Their reward is a home quarter-final against Bricklayers Arms from Bishops Stortford.

Callum Freeman (two) and Chris Bunker netted as Walkern Construction were beaten after extra-time at Carefree Athletic.

Rhys Flavell’s goal for Granby was mere consolation as their run came crashing down at FC Hedgehog 2010.

Premier Division:
Nirankari Stevenage maintained their 100 percent record at the top as David Iweduino, Martin Young, Michael Ettienne, Leon Gutzmore and a Paul Otim debut brace saw off Highview. Nick Wellings and John Vooght replied.

Despite both sides having excellent chances to take the lead in the first-half. Neil Henderson capitalised on a mix-up between defender and goalkeeper to score from a tight angle to put Almond Tree United in front. Substitute Dave Holmes made it two before Henderson struck his second to secure all the points with twenty minutes remaining against MBDA.

Division 1:
Lacklustre leaders Nirankari Stevenage Reserves did enough for the points as Dan Gregory and Adam MacKenzie were on the mark against Marquis of Lorne.

Stevenage Fencing are starting to show some form again despite having a couple of players out of position. They’re in a pack of five teams who are separated by four points, all looking at the runners-up spot. Billy-Joe Sewell netted from Garry Smith’s through-ball for the opener before the same combination doubled the lead. Joe Delasalle finished from a one-on-one for the third before adding another after Sewell’s corner was cleared. Delasalle was first to his hat-trick as Smith supplied again before he added another via the post from Luke Gumble’s cross. Sewell reached his hat-trick from the spot after Gumble’s terrific run was cut short in the box. Delasalle went nap for the final say, cutting in to finish with ease. Broadhall Reserves replied through Mark Chalkley and Alex Elmes.

Division 2:
TC United extended their lead at the top after Lewis White opened the scoring when his deflected effort lobbed the 'keeper. Hartham Press were back on level terms courtesy of a Richard Edwards own goal as he punched a long Dan Curtin throw-in into his own net. Terry Lock headed home a Craig Joy corner after the break to restore the lead after the break. Alan Gifford added his name to the scoresheet when he finished well after a good team move and Lock completed the scoring when he found the bottom corner after a solo run. Hartham’s cause wasn’t helped when they had a man sent-off mid-way through the second-half.

Mallard Old Boys had a comfortable win over FC Squirrel to move into second place. Gav Bowler hit a rare left-foot strike from outside the box and Si Parnell, Sean Lamacraft and Dave Hollands added to it.

Division 3:
Odyssey still lead after Will Cubitt, Jan Pearce, Dave Sell and Gary Henniker put Stevenage Colts Reserves to the sword.

Broadhall A are the only unbeaten side and they’re just two off the lead. They started in superb fashion and had the game sewn up in the first 20 minutes. Phil Stevens latched on to Andy Lee's knock down, rounded the ‘keeper and then scored with a brilliant finish from a tight angle. The second saw Stevens' well delivered free-kick evade everyone to end up in the far corner before the third came via a penalty, tucked away by Matt Henning. Rileys Athletic finally got into the game, but never really troubled the defence. Michael Carter did well to nick Rob Stevenson's through-ball past the ‘keeper for number four before half-time. The second-half was low key, the only goal came early on courtesy of a Stevens penalty.

Chequers had a comfortable win over Times Club (John Wilson). Carl Thompson replaced the four goals he had removed for a club discrepancy when a big win was overturned. Mark Brennan and John Mikiel also scored.

Division 4:
Roebuck Gate lead the table after a comfortable win. Dave Morton (two), Lewis Collins (two) and Ian Levy were on the mark again Stevenage Old Town. Richard Stewart and Steve Arno replied.

Ollie Mason put Breachwood Lions ahead with a well taken goal early in the game. However, the scores were level when Theo Griffith got the better of Ricky Hill and lifted the ball over the advancing ‘keeper George Harrison to level. Lions re-established their lead when Ali Collins converted a reverse pass from Dan Jefferies. The latter added a third before the break. Within minutes of the restart, Simon Blondell scored an own goal with his back to goal, although Griffith has claimed it. Collins put the game beyond Proverbial with two goals to secure his hat-trick. Iaian Turkentine made it six as Lions moved up to third, just two off the lead.
