Carl Thompson, banging them in for Chequers again...

Great Day In Junior Cup

Our teams came out well on top as the County Cup action got underway, writes Darren “Statto” Jones.

Herts Junior Cup:
Proverbial took exactly that and were biggest winners against Wheathampstead 89. Their opponents scored an own goal early on before Michael Gwilliams netted. Theo Griffiths and Joe Marshall each banged in hat-tricks before Gareth Woods struck a brace, one of which was a screamer from 25 yards into the top corner. Keith Dymock scored a header in the last minute.

Granby got off to a great start in their tie at FC Boca, scoring twice in the first fifteen minutes. Garry Haze slotted home before Sam Bickerstaff's left peg once again saw a stunning goal from 35 yards. Just before the break, Jaiden Irish and Haze showed some unbelievable tekkers, making several one touch passes before the latter hit his second. Bickerstaff's second came after a good team move before Haze completed his hat-trick. Brothers Daryl Fairbairn and Andrew Fairbairn got in on the act before Chris Lyle finished matters with the eighth.

Kieran Webb (hat-trick), Ryan Gregory (two), Philip Francis, Ben Thompson and Darren Athinis were on target in Lorne Rangers’ massive win at Sandridge.

Andrew Nash (hat-trick), Christian Goodyear (two), Rob Smith and James Marshall helped Crooked Billet Boro to an easy win in Hitchin against Red Hart SMU Reserves.

Joe Whittaker’s hat-trick helped Emperors Head on their way to a stroll over ER. Michael Hemmings and an own goal completed the scoring.

Lewis Gilbert knocked in a hat-trick as Odyssey went through at Lea Valley Royals. Will Cubitt got the other goal.

Timebridge AFC Reserves drew first blood with Josh Stock firing home. Hockerill Tens levelled before Stock converted a rebound after some sloppy goalkeeping. Tens took the game to extra-time after a long ball forward bounced over ‘keeper Scott Pettit. Kris Donoghue and Stuart Satchell won it for Timebridge.

Chequers got off to a poor start, going three behind to Cheshunt Park Rangers in the first twenty minutes. After a re-shuffle at the break, Carl Thompson pulled one back with a thirty-yard screamer into the corner. He scored again from the penalty spot ten minutes later before levelling things fifteen minutes from time from a Darren Cox cross. The game went to extra-time and after some great work and a pin-point cross from Allan Collins, that man Thompson volleyed home his and Chequers’ fourth to put them through.

Danny Russell, Kieran Devine and Tom Gallagher netted as Rileys Athletic edged out Cottonmill.

Stevenage Old Town went through after The Camp Albanians failed to field a side.

Times Club were comfortably beaten at Chase Side Old Boys, as were Roebuck Gate by AC Medz. Neal Watson’s goal was a mere consolation for ABC Taxis at Kings Arms.
