Stuart Leddy from a Tim Barnett pass started off Bramley United’s campaign in their Basingstoke Kelvin Cup quarter-final against visitors Mucky Duck , but they were soon pegged back to all-square on Sunday. Just before half-time, however, a cross from Leddy was headed in by Ben Squibb to go one up. Bramley piled on the pressure after changing ends and increased their lead with Leddy’s second, but once more the visitors pegged back another goal to keep their hopes alive. Leddy once more provided a cross that substitute Colin Bell buried, for Bramley United to take a 4-2 lead and end Mucky Duck’s resistance, in their third victory in a row.
In an all-Basingstoke tie of the Andover Presidents Cup between Soldiers Return and Chineham, few chances in the first half resulted in 0-0 at the interval. Soldiers had the wind behind them in the second half and a free kick from Stuart Cubbage put through Matt Kelly to open the scoring, then Freddie Cloke added another from a free kick outside area to make it 2-0 and three wins in a row.
In Division 2 Camrose Social scored two good goals in the opening half from Chris Waller and Gareth Slade to go in 2-0 up against Basingstoke Saints. Liam James missed a penalty for Saints as they worked hard to get back into the game. But this was Camrose’s day and would not be denied, their sixth win on the bounce, and seventh away win in a row.
Shallow End set up their first league win and first away victory with a great pass from Charlie Todd, who played Callum Elson through to open the scoring with a calm finish. That's 10 goals in as many games for the striker. Shallow End went 2-0 up after Liam Rump latched onto a loose ball from the Chineham Athletic keeper 25 yards out. Chineham fought back after a scrappy goal mouth moment got them back in the game. After the break a great cross from Callum Rump met the head of Todd to get his first goal this season. A late consolation goal for Chineham was not enough to ruin Shallow End’s memorable 2-3 victory.
Michael Sewell returned between the sticks of the North Warnborough Reserves‘ goal for the first time this season, releasing Ryan Thorpe from the green jersey he has donned all season to trawl for goals up front. So Chineham Reserves faced a strong forward line. Within 10 minutes Tom Davies scored the first of his hat-trick. Then Jack McKee crossed for Davis to add his second, while Chineham made it 2-1 with a Scott Berry strike by half-time. After the break Borough made the game their own, netting five more, with Davies completely his hatful, Ryan Thorpe racking up a hat-trick of his own and McKee getting a single as reward for his efforts in a 7-1 win, blowing the championship chances wide open.
Overton United’s 5-2 win over UWS was their fifth home win on the trot, with a single from Warren Clark and braces from Ryan Watts and Scott Winterbourne. UWS’s goals came from Craig Short, after a scramble in the box, and Jake Gorman, but this result was not only their first league defeat, but also their first away defeat in any competition this season.
