Hampshire Junior B Cup Second Round
It was a late goal from defender Lee O’Grady that proved the late decider in this close encounter to see his side Basingstoke Athletic win 4-3 and into the third round of the Hampshire Junior B Cup, but it was the hat trick from Steve McDonald that really saw them through. Jason McDine gave Berg the lead after his first shot was half saved and in the 35th Stefan Graham took advantage of a mix up at the back and rounded the keeper. It was a minute before the break when Josh Boyle played through to McDonald for his first and three minutes into the second half he headed them level. James Brown regained the Berg lead in the 66th, but again McDonald scrambled home a free kick from Paul Taylor that was not cleared. In the 82nd minute came the winner. A cross from Taylor fell to Aaron Barton; his curler into the box was met with firm header from O’Grady to see Athletic through.

North Hants May Cup First Round
The outstanding First Round North Hants May Cup was played, and Herriard Sports enjoyed a comfortable 7-2 win against lowly placed division Two AFC Aldermaston A. Feature of the game was the four goals scored by Chris Dobbie, as Herriard were partially over their injury problems. Dobbie opened his account after four minutes when he headed home a Sam Weber free kick. Aldermaston replied in the 13th through Tommy James, but they conceded a penalty in the 25th after Karl Buttle was brought down and Jason Minton converted. By half time Dobbie had completed his hat trick with assists from Weber and it was Weber with the next after a solo run past three men. Aldermaston pulled another goal back through Vinny Kennedy, who later hit the post, but Herriard regained control and Buttle found Dobbie who netted his fourth and Weber scored his second. In the final ten minutes.

Peter Raynbird Cup Second Round.
AFC Berg are the current holders of the Peter Raynbird Cup after beating Twentyten in the Final last season and they had a very easy passage through to the Quarter Finals this time after beating the Twentyten Reserve side 5-0. Their opponents had only ten men for the first half and did well to hold Berg to just the one goal, a sweet volley. Even though up to eleven for the second period, the quality of Berg shone through, looking the superior side and when keeper Ian Pickett spilled a shot it became 2- 0. Slack marking led to two further goals. The Berg goals came from Reece Chapman (2), Mitchell Medford, Paul Crow and Lee Neal.

When Gary Hibbs and Co decided to reform Silchester Village this season, it was always thought they would be a threat to the established clubs and it proved so as they defeated Hook, four times past winners of the Peter Raynbird Cup. It was always a close affair and they ended 4-3 winners, with Kye Theodore scoring the decider in the 84th minute. Peter White had the ball in the net twice in the opening fifteen minutes, both being ruled offside and then Hook shook them with two quick goals. A clearance from keeper Greg Archer was picked up by Morgan Davies who found Dan Mellor and he volleyed home from 23 yards. It became 2-0 in the 22nd when Dan Mauradian lobbed keeper Aidan Hudson. Stephen Burgess forced another good save and a great block by Jon Noakes stopped him again, but in the 31st minute. a Burgess effort was parried, and Jack Nisbet followed up to net the rebound. It was in the 62nd minute when Silchester equalised when a 45-yard free kick from White led to Nisbet scoring his second. In the 70th Burgess put them ahead, but five minutes later substitute Ashley Wood levelled it to 3-3 from a tight angled shot. The winner came in the 84th minute when a cross from Nicky Black was headed down by White for Theodore put his chance away. Silchester will now play AFC Berg, the current holders in the Quarter Finals.


Twentyten first team were amongst the goals again, beating Overton United A 11-0, a repeat of the 11-0 win they had against them earlier in a league match. Overton almost had to call off this tie on Saturday morning, but managed to get a scratch side together. As expected they were under pressure from the off and by the break were 6-0 down, with a hat trick from Karl Hanks. The second half saw Joe Osborne also help himself to hat trick. The other goals came via Dan Hancock (2),) Jack Clarke, Ryan Lupton and the last from Joe Hill with a shot in off the post.

AFC Aldermaston Reserves won through and it means a local derby against Tadley Calleva A in the Quarter Final, however they found it hard against Division Two North Warnborough. It was Borough starting well and had a goal from Jake Gorman disallowed early on and then were weakened when Sam Buley had to go off injured. Aldermaston took the lead in the 30th minute when Liam Tackley put Jamal Small through and. they doubled their lead in the 55th when Small cut in from the left and gave keeper Reece Emery no chance with his low cross shot. Carl Allen, Michael Porter and Tackley all forced some excellent saves from Emery before Borough pulled a goal back. It came in the 80th minute when Emery hit a long clearance; it fell to Khalil Bentaleb who slotted past Matt Desay, but no further scares for the Aldermaston keeper.

Basingstoke Saturday League
Division Two
There was just the one league match in which Oakridge, top of Division Two, played Chineham, the team at the bottom and it produced a shock result with Chineham winning 3-2. It was Chineham who set the pace and went into the lead after 12 minutes. A long throw from Cobi Judd had the Oakridge defence in trouble and Matt Kempson headed past keeper Jake Barnes. In the 22nd minute Barnes fouled Judd in the box and Paddy Callaghan put the resulting penalty kick away. Just before half time Sam Trodd scored for Oakridge with a free kick but four minutes into the second half Chineham restored their two-goal advantage when Judd lobbed the keeper from outside the penalty area. Oakridge mounted plenty of attacks and became frustrated as the game progressed but did eventually score with a great volley by Sam Mosdell. Plenty off chances after this, but it was just not their day and three points slipped away in their bid for the title. The three points for Chineham has taken them off the bottom of the table.
