Neil Henderson, hat-trick as Almond Tree United went through...

Another Great County Cup Day...

The Premier Division sides did Stevenage proud on Sunday with every tie won, writes Darren “Statto” Jones.

Herts Senior Cup:
Second-half substitute Neil Henderson hit a hat-trick in half-an-hour to complete a comfortable win for Almond Tree United. In the first-half, there were two from Ricky Lawrance, one a sublime bicycle-kick from 12 yards, and a Dale Chester strike, finishing off a great team move. Home side Spenny Rangers grabbed a late consolation.

Marquis United travelled to Berkhamstead with the bare eleven and hammered Bovingdon Rangers. Four more well taken goals from Barry Hazelton took him to 16 for the season. A lovely Bobby Dance strike from 25 yards completed the rout.

David Iwediuno (two), Andrew Iwediuno and Martin Young were on target in Nirankari Stevenage’s comfortable win at AC Finchley.

Shaun Marshall, Scott Mahoney and James Dillnutt netted in Dun Cow’s win over AFC Rangers.

A great team performance put Broadhall through. The first came early, following a long throw-in by Michael Wells, turned in past the ‘keeper by Charlie Pirie. He then doubled the lead with a great 25-yard half-volley. Pymmes Brook pulled one back before a clever turn and finish from 18 yards for a tenth of the season for John Johnston extended the lead again to ease the pressure. Another concession saw an anxious last five minutes, but superb defending kept the attack at bay and they went through.

Two Dean Allen strikes saw Bottles win the all-Stevenage clash. Martin Wilson was also on target, whilst Highview replied with a John Vooght brace.

An amazing game in Bishops Stortford saw MBDA dominate the first-half, but only had Sam Harwood’s sublime volley from Liam Boon’s superb cross-field pass to show for it, with half-a-dozen efforts being saved on the line by the goalkeeper or defenders. Craig Sutherill doubled the lead a couple of minutes after the break, but Silver Swifts - who are top of their league - stormed back to take the lead, Martin Barrett netting an own goal amongst them. With time running out, Ross Walker was tripped in the box and Harwood forced extra-time from the spot. The home side netted twice in the first period, and it needed another spirited MBDA comeback as they showed on more than one occasion in last season’s Intermediate Cup run to the semi-final. Ashley Kersey ran 50 yards, outstripped a defender and slid the ball past the ‘keeper before the same man poked home in the last minute to force a penalty shoot-out. The home side dragged their first kick wide, whilst MBDA netted all five to go through, Walker hitting the decisive kick.
