The Passey/Triggs Trophy

Please be advised that a new cup competition will take place this season, as advised at the AGM to replace fixtures that would have been in the Wirral DFA competitions.

The suggestion of a European phased competition was received from one of the member teams and the LMC agreed it was a good idea.

But more than a 'knock-out' competition, this will enable all teams to have at least an extra 3 fixtures in their group and possibly more if they progress.

The format will be as follows;
Teams from both divisions will have been drawn to compete in four (4) mini leagues (groups) playing each other once.

So there will be at least two teams from each division to compete for the next phase.
As there are 18 teams in the league, the groups will consist of two with 5 teams and two with 4 teams and the top two of each division will progress to the final 8.

The groups will be named as A, B, C and D.
Group A and Group C will have 5 teams, with the other two groups having 4 teams.

Effort will be made to provide home and away fixtures for all teams during the early stages.

In phase two it has been decided by the LMC that the top team of each division will play against the runner-up team of another division to decide provide quarter final fixtures.

Group winners and 2nd placed teams will be decided on points won, then goals difference and if need by goals scored as is the International Board regulation. A separate draw will be made for the semi-finals. As with all our cup competitions the final will be played on a neutral venue.

It is a variation of the Capitol Cup, which of course includes all teams in the league, but is not a straight knock-out competition.

This will provide extra fixtures for every team this season and if a success will continue for future seasons. It is hoped that all member teams will provide support for this new competition and help to make it a success.

The opening fixtures will be compiled the same as league fixtures are, and it is envisaged the competition may commence 6th October.
