the sparkling sunshine on Sunday, Bramley United found themselves a goal down against run of play, 5 minutes into the second round of the Basingstoke Kelvin Cup . They faced strong opposition in Tidworth Town, who were predominantly made up of very fit military players. Home side Bramley fought back and leveled 15 minutes in with a Stuart Leddy screamer from 35 yards. On 35 minutes Neil Armstrong crossed for Ben Squibb to edge the hosts ahead at the interval. Adam Bartlett, on as substitute for the last 45 minutes, completed two good finishes against run of play as Tidworth pressed to get even. Les Wood and James Wake held on well to seal the Bramley defence and ensure a memorable result, 4-1.
In the outstanding first round Basingstoke Kelvin Cup match, Worthys beat AFC Soldiers 3-0.
Chineham Reserves fought well away from home to hold Sportsman to a 4-4 draw in the opening round of the North Hants Chris Price Cup. Goals from Jamie Allaway with a brace, Tyler Andrews and Mark West. The penalty shoot out was close, Chineham losing 6-5 on penalties.
Oakley beat Welcome Stranger 1-0 in the opening round of the Andover Presidents Cup.
In their Division 1 match Eastrop Eagles were stunned by three first-half goals from Chineham. Shane West opened the visitors’ account with a tap-in from Ben Saunders’ cross, Saunders buried a disputed penalty, before Keiron Alleyne pounced on a loose ball 12 yards out to smack it into the top left hand corner. Eagles rallied after the interval, a through ball from Lee Bush freed Kirk Smith to strike from the left hand side of the box, 1-3. If it wasn’t for a disallowed goal, Eagles might have salvaged something from the game.
Republic of Chineham turned up for their "top vs bottom" Division 1 game with a full team and substitutes, but the visitors North Warnborough were let down by injuries and absentees, with only 8 players able to pull on their team shirts. Republic didn’t hold back against the newcomers to the division, using superior numbers to pass the ball around before filling their boots. By half-time the score was 11-0. Some sides on the receiving end might have packed up and gone home, but Boro were made of sterner stuff and Shaun Delfosse netted a brace to avoid the whitewash and Boro kept the rate down in the second half by running themselves to exhaustion, when Republic were able to get a few late goals to take the final score to 20-2. Scorers for Republic of Chineham were Zac Reynolds 3, Adam Di Manbro 3, Ash Elward, Harry Rudge 2, Charlie Hart 4, Finley Hall 2 Wayne Finn 3 Ben Nicholls 2.
Soldiers Return were a goal down after 10 minutes, as Craig Hopper set up Mike Pemberton for visitors Hampshire Irons and this left the hosts chasing the game from behind, squandering several chances. Then Matt Kelly’s shot was parried by Michael Wood in goal and Alex Izzo tapped in to level the score before the interval. Irons took the lead again 1-2 with 15 mins to go, after Alex Brundle passed to Gavin Curry to net. Stuart Cubbage volleyed in from just outside the area to restore parity 2-2 with 4 minutes left. Then from a Jordan Grant free kick skipper Jack Miller fired a left foot shot through crowd of player for a late winner for Irons 2-3.
In Division 2 Camrose Social had a bruising encounter with Team FC, both teams threatened, with Team FC’s captain Brendan Vickery’s 30-yard lob over the bar and Mark Frost shaving the post. Before the interval the hosts were reduced to 10 men. Team continued to press, Josh Chatee hitting the post, but on 70 minutes Camrose broke away and Liam Rutter netted after a one on one with Golding. Adam Robinson put in a good shift in the Camrose goal with four fine saves, before Adam Everiss crossed for Mark Frost to level 1-1. With 5 minutes left Everiss’ a free kick returned off the wall to smash a 25-yard winner into the top left corner. With seconds to go, Camrose’s Hobday’s powerful header was deflected by Adam Aimable onto the post, giving Team FC a 1-2 victory.
North Warnborough Reserves, who fielded a full side despite a depleted first team, faced a Basingstoke Saints, who mustered 10 players, including two debutants. Jason Williams early benefited from the superior numbers, getting Boro off the mark on 10 minutes. Tom Davies added two before the break, 3-0. John Hodgson made it 4-0, Davies completed his hat-trick on 65 minutes, Jack McKee squeezed in one before Davies took his tally to 4, and Nial Day netted to make it 8-0 at the death. Saints couldn’t fault the effort and character shown and never stopped running. Adam Butler, Andy Darracott, Russell Brooks Josh Eastment, Liam Stokes and Ian Pickett in goal, played with excellent spirit.
Shallow End were beaten 0-5 by Overton United, goals by Louis McCann, Richie Budd, Scott Winterbourne brace and Ben Pearce.
