North Hants May Cup Second Round
Hook are the current leaders in Division One of the Basingstoke Saturday League and had a very easy passage into the next stage of the North Hants May Cup by beating Herriard Sports 9-0 away. It took them ten minutes to go ahead when a clever back heel by Dan Mellors gave Morgan Davies his opportunity. Good build up in the 31st by Ashley Wood and Davies led to Mark Pyle scoring the second and a minute later Davies made it three with an assist from Ben Watson. Dan Alliston, who incidentally is a grandson of the late Tony (Killer) Sellwood, added two more before the break. Mellors took a pass from Wood in the 51st for number six and Wood made it 7-0 Substitute Jack Paisley scored the next and finally another substitute Jon Noakes hit the post and Lewis Mitchell followed up to net the final goal.
Silchester Village proved far too strong for Division Two North Warnborough and hammered them 15-1 on The Green. Although they managed to field eleven players, Borough were missing all of their strikers, however after conceding early on, they drew level when awarded a penalty after Luke Scannelli was fouled and Liam Cook converted. After this they were outplayed and out muscled by the Villagers with Jason Graham scoring five, four for Kye Theodore, two apiece for Matt Foreman and Peter White and singles from Stephen Burgess, Gary Hibbs.
Twentyten had a tough game against CK Andover but are through by winning 3-2 on penalties after drawing 2-2 in the 90 minutes. It was their goalkeeper Darren Gary who was the real hero in this victory by making three brilliant saves in the penalty shootout. It was two early fine saves by him that kept it level until he was beaten in the 20th minute when the Andover League club were on top. Brother Richard Gary equalised in the 35th and only two good saves stopped James Arnold giving them the lead, but it did come just before half time. Jack Clarke and Mikey Davies then combined for Davies to slip his chance into the net from close in. CK proved difficult to penetrate and always looked dangerous on the break but were held until the 89th minute when on a breakaway they equalised. In added time Joe Hill hit a good chance over the bar so it went straight into penalties where Darren Gary came into action with his three saves and the conversions for Twentyten came from Joe Hill, Jack Clarke and the winner from Richard Gary.
Basingstoke B Cup Quarter Finals.
Twentyten Reserves are through to the Semi Finals of the Basingstoke B Cup after a 5-0 win against AFC Berg Reserves. They took a third minute lead through Olly Knox with a tight angled shot. Berg did well to hold them until two minutes into the second half when Ed Hall took a pass from Luke Higgins and his smart finish made it 3-0. The fourth came when a corner by Higgins was met with a header from Josh Bromley’ it found Jack Barrett who headed down for Hall to finish. Higgins, who had played in creating the earlier goals, put away the fifth after a corner by Joe Richards was not cleared well.
Basingstoke Athletic met Oakridge and after drawing 1-1 after 90 minutes had been played, they went straight into a penalty shootout where Oakridge won 4-3. The rules state extra time will be played in all Basingstoke Cup Competitions; therefore, the tie will replayed this Saturday.
Division One
AFC Berg were in charge against Tadley Calleva A , who did not play well and conceded two goals in the first half. Two minutes into the second half came a third and a chip over keeper Dave Hicks in the 55th ended all hopes for the visitors. We did create some chances said Tadley Manager Bradley Nash for Fred Bull up front, but at the moment we cannot buy a goal as they say. The Berg goals came through Ashley Elward (2), Reece Chapman and Jessie Todd., as they move into second spot in Division One.
Division Two.
Renegades remain top of the Division Two table by holding a one-point & a game in hand lead over Overton United B after winning just 2-0 against lowly placed AFC Aldermaston A. They took the lead after 25 minutes when a free kick just outside the penalty area taken by Ashley Burchett, proved too good for the keeper. Burchett then turned provider in the 35th minute when his ball over the top was picked up by Ian Ryan who went on to score their second. Aldermaston proved more difficult after the break with several strong attacks, but the home defence held them.
