AFC Mansfield continue to fly the flag for the Central Midlands League in the FA Vase, adding step 5 team Northampton Sileby Rangers to the list of higher ranking sides they have seen off already in this year’s competition. They needed extra time on this occasion, but finally came out 5-2 winners, to advance to round two. Dean Rick and Mark Carter both scored twice, with Callum Green also on target. It was the end of the road for our two other representatives, however, Hucknall Town going down 3-1 at home to another United Counties outfit, Desborough Town, the goal coming from John Whetton, while Kinsley Boys’ run came to a halt at Glossop North End, the home side running in seven without reply.
More good news for Mansfield came in the Black Dragon Badges North division where closest rivals Westella Hanson tasted defeat for the first time this season, going down 2-1 at Thorne Colliery. The home side’s impressive run continued with goals from Scott Rhodes and Darren Fell, Andy Bagshaw getting one for Westella. Phoenix join Westella at the top after a 2-1 win at Sherwood Colliery with Steve McDonnell and Aaron Cross on target for the Rotherham side, Brad Straw with the Sherwood goal. Brodsworth Welfare had a good win over Harworth Colliery, the final score here was 3-2, the goals coming from Shane Carver (2) and Mel Cotton for the home side, Tom Wood and Jordan Hardman for Harworth. Thoresby Colliery took maximum points for the first time this season, coming back from Easington United with a two goal win. Both goals came just before half time, James Scothern and Tony Buchanan lifting Thoresby out of the bottom two. Newark Town came out on top by six goals to four in a highly entertaining game at Bentley Colliery. Newark led 3-1 at the break, but were pegged back by a never say die performance from the hosts, and needed two late goals to take the points. Calum Fraser, James Munson and Sam Bagworth all scored two for the Blues, with Billy Parkhouse (2), Courtney Peynado and Matty Brown getting Bentley’s goals. Clay Cross Town must wish they could play away every week, six of their seven wins having come on their travels. Ollerton Town were this week’s victims, two goals from Ant Lynam and one for Lee Clay giving the Derbyshire team a 3-1 win, the Ollerton reply coming from James Hogg. Glapwell came out on top at Askern. Their goals in a 2-1 win were supplied by Jake Wharton and Ross Murcott, Askern’s from Josh Taylor.
Leaders of the Black Dragon Badges South division Clifton All Whites were on the wrong end of a 6-2 scoreline in their home game with Real United. The scores were level at one all at the break, but the visitors ran away with it in the second half. All the goals came in pairs, Kieran Whalin, Anton Daniels and Jordan Blair all scoring twice for Real, with Jay-Lee Hodgson getting both Clifton goals. After a slow start, Bulwell are building up a head of steam, and they recorded their fourth successive win with a 4-1 defeat of second placed Bilborough Pelican. Ako Abdullah(2), Ben Moore and an own goal set up the win with Danny Johnson the Pelican marksman. Belper United travelled to Barrowby, returning from Lincolnshire 4-1 to the good. Craig Riley, Luke Crosby, Sam Vickers and another own goal gave Belper the points, Barry Payne the Barrowby goalscorer. South Normanton Athletic are the only unbeaten side in the division, they extended their run with a 3-1 win at Allenton United thanks to Robert Fretwell, Tom Leighton and Ben Greenhalgh, Steve O’Connell pulling one back for Allenton. Southwell City are now unbeaten for seven games, they pulled off a 3-2 win at Pinxton. Anthony Brown, Marlon Waites and Stewart Gill secured the points, with Wayne Cooke and Jason Dawson replying for the home side. Linby Colliery will be hoping their second victory of the season, 2-1 at Holbrook St Michaels, is the start of better things, bringing an end to a winless run of eleven games. Damian Mann got both of the Linby goals, Andy Symcox replying for the home side. Mickleover Royals overturned Blidworth Welfare 5-2, their scorers were Conor Domachowski with two, Niall Mather, Lukasz Rajewski and Adam Birch. Down the road Mickleover RBL went down 5-3 to an improving Swanwick Pentrich Road. Scorers here were Shane Buckerfield, Ashley Buxton, Dean Owen, Richard Wall and Thomas Yates for Swanwick, David Moon, Gavin Whitehead and Ben Roffey for the Legion.
There were only three matches in the Reserve Supreme division, with the day’s top score coming from Dunkirk, who steamrollered Radford 11-1. Colby Bishop (4), Kyle Pembleton (3), Sam Wood (2), Kurtis Shand and Connor Gilbey made it a long afternoon for the visitors whose consolation goal came from Sam Francis. Dronfield Town kept their unbeaten record with a narrow 3-2 win over Teversal thanks to goals from Jon Perkins, Charles Bradwell and Jamie Willis, Teversal’s reply coming from Ryan Williams and Simba Ganyiwa. Bilborough Pelican also picked up three points with a 4-1 defeat of Matlock Town. Nick Langford with two, Malaky Eshelby and Luke Attenborough for Pelican, Liam Hendley for the Gladiators.
Sherwood Colliery march on at the top of the Reserve Premier division. They recorded their sixth successive win by five goals to two at Welbeck. Ashley Fleet was the man in form, with four goals to his credit, Carl Russo adding the other, while Robbie Savage got both for Welbeck. Blidworth Welfare beat Newark Town by four goals to two, with Elliott Neal, Louis Roberts, Tommy Edwards and Olly Ashton all on target. Jake Reynolds kept up his record of scoring in every game this season for Newark, Rhys Stanley adding the second. Harworth Colliery’s 4-0 win over Pinxton came courtesy of Scott Hardman, Danny Siddall, James Pine and Lewis Francis, while in the other match, Holbrook St Michaels won 4-1 at Thoresby Colliery Welfare.
All three ties in the Derbyshire FA Divisional Cup went the way of Central Midlands sides. Goals from Matt Crooks (2) and Ross Layton gave Belper United a 3-1 win over Chellaston, while Allenton United were successful by the same score at Holbrook Sports. Ryan O’Connor with two and Paul Tyres saw Allenton through, while in the third match, Swanwick Pentrich Road beat Willington 5-1.
