The Last Act...

Probuild Reserves clinched the Division Two title on goal difference on Sunday as they watched the final game of the CSSFL season from the side-lines, writes Darren “Statto” Jones.

With their 6-2 win over Times Club the previous week, MBDA had a mountain to climb against a strong Stevenage Fencing side in a game that was postponed the previous week due to poor pitch markings. Needing to win by six clear goals, it was always a massive task and the game was almost played a pre-season pace in the searing heat. A win on the day for MBDA to preserve a two year unbeaten record against these opponents was some consolation. Ashley Kersey’s brilliant dipping volley from 25 yards gave them the lead shortly after half-time for his 51st of the season. Joe Delasalle equalised from the penalty spot with ten minutes remaining, but MBDA took the points with a 2-1 victory when Kyal Currey didn’t connect conclusively with a punch and saw the ball spin behind him and over the line with just a couple of minutes left on the clock. With both teams winning 16 games, each drawing with Fencing and beating eachother, the title was decided on goal difference and the Probuild Reserves lads celebrated at the final whistle.

The Constitution was set out at a Meeting on Monday and will be released to the Clubs 14 days before the AGM, which is scheduled for 17th June.
