HAMPSHIRE VS SURREY
Hampshire produced an outstanding performance to crush Surrey 5-0 in the first round of the ESFA inter-county cup, the reward for which is a trip to Cirencester and a meet-up with Gloucestershire on December 4.
An early goal direct from a corner by Ryan Penny (Sparsholt) settled the nerves and Hampshire went 2-0 in front on 10 minutes after some neat work out wide saw Cameron Langan (Alton) send in a lovely cross for Sparsholt’s Mani Alli to head home.
Hampshire continued to dominate and went 3-0 up on the stroke of half time, when Farnborough striker Jake Wilson cut in from the right to fire a deflected shot past the Surrey keeper.
Surrey rallied at the start of the second half but once Hampshire had weathered the fightback, normal service was resumed.
Several missed opportunities came and went, but Jake Wilson put the game beyond doubt with a nice turn and finish in the box with ten minutes remaining.
In the final few minutes, a lovely team move was neatly finished off by Wayne Nderemani (Sparsholt) to make the scoreline 5-0.
Manager Luke Hampton praised outstanding performances from Alex Haynes, Harry Prisk and Jean-Luc Ramdin, with Ryan Penny controlling the game in midfield.
Hampshire play Hertfordshire in the SE Counties League on Tuesday week, November 28 at Alton’s Anstey Park ground.
