“That’s the best we’ve played for a long time!” - FC Salle OB breeze past Sefton Park Rangers 2nds to stay within touching distance of LOBAL League One leaders.

Sefton Park Rangers 2nd team were beaten comprehensively 1-8 by a ruthless FC Salle Old Boys team, who took their chances, and make sure they go just 2 points behind league leaders Kingfisher FC in the LOBAL League One.

FC Salle’s manager Ste Atkinson was understandably positive about the result, saying: “It was a good game, got a couple of early goals and kept the pressure on.

“It was the best we’ve played in a long time, so I’m happy with that.”

Sefton Park Rangers 2’s manager Anthony Grant said: “We always knew it was going to be a tough game today, they’re a really good side. The objective was to try and come here, compete and stay in the game as long as possible but when you start the game like that and concede so many early goals, you give yourself no chance really.”

Following in the footsteps of Tiber Football Centre’s previous match of the day, the game started at a rapid pace, with FC Salle scoring a wonder goal in just the 2nd minute of play, lobbing Sefton’s unfortunate Tom Blacoe in goal.

It quite quickly became a scoring frenzy for Salle, as they were 4-0 up within just 12 minutes, before the home side added to the scoring with a beautifully made goal. Neil McFadden swung a brilliant cross perfectly onto the head of Mick Furlong, who headed back across goal, leaving the keeper helpless.

Nevertheless, the goal seemed to have only poked the bear, as by the halfway mark, the damage had risen to 6-1.

The Oranje were much more in the second half, but it was FC Salle’s number 9 who was next to add to the scoresheet with a strong header from a corner. The 8th and final goal came from a quick transition up the pitch after a short period of Salle defense, which truly put the last nail in the coffin.

Looking at the positives, Grant said: “You’ve got to look at individual performances, lads who’ve come out of it with credit. You look at who’s acquitted themselves well, who's competed, who stayed in the game for 90 minutes.

“I think in a game like that, when you’re getting hammered, it's hard to stay alive for 90 minutes; you can check out emotionally and physically. We will go onto the next one hopefully.”

Next week, FC Salle Old Boys have their biggest game of the season, playing table-toppers Kingfisher FC, and Sefton Park Rangers visit MSB Woolton.
