Here's your round-up of all the action from week commencing 10th September

Week 2 saw us almost complete a full round of fixtures however we were denied that on Tuesday night when the deluge during the day put paid to any chances of Kimberley MW hosting Notts County.

However, despite this one missing fixture it was in the South Division where the league kicked off for a second week in a row. Long Eaton United opening their season with a 4-1 victory over newcomers Matlock Town. Andrew Tsolakis scored a brace for the hosts with further goals from Riley Phillips and Alans Voskresenskis. Matlock’s reply came from Kyle Clowes. Staveley MW were also in action for the first time this season as they visited Rainworth MW on Wednesday night. The Trojans certainly lived up to their name winning by a scoreline of 1-7 thanks to goals from Daniel Boulby, Callum Brown, Jack Deakin, Ethan Garbutt, Harrison Lightning, Henry Tomlinson and Michael Wilson. Rainworth hit back through Jack Mattison.

The other two divisions didn’t see any action until a busy Thursday evening. In the North, Penistone Church followed up their 6-1 win on opening night with another comprehensive victory on the road at Dronfield Town. Maxwell Jenkins scored twice with Oliver Casson also scoring in a 3-0 win. Just up the road at Swallownest, the hosts made a bigger fight of things than they had a week early, eventually going down 2-1 at home to Worsbrough Bridge. Isaac Barnard and George Walker on target for Worsbrough with Callum Sturtch replying for the hosts. Thorncliffe and Emley rounded off the action in the North, with Emley taking 3 points back North having won 4-0. Adil Ayub was on target for the second week running whilst Teejay Musvaburi (2) and Leon Morris getting the others.

In the central, 3 teams maintained a 100% start to the season starting in Goole where the visitors were reigning league champions Gainsborough Trinity. A Kyle Simpson double and a clean sheet saw Gainsborough head back home with the points. Another of the early pace setters is Retford United who took three points back to Nottinghamshire from their visit to Club Thorne. Thorne missed five early chances as they dominated the early exchanges, but Retford took full advantage and goals from Billy Stafford, Jack Anderson-Dormer and Harvey Graham, the latter two being absolute rockets saw them win 3-0. Harworth are the 3rd team in the early mix thanks to a 5-2 victory over Dinnington. Reece Jones (2), William Gomes, Cameron Manning and Cameron Till with the goals for Harworth. Alfie Bakes and Zak Thompson replying for Dinnington.
There was one more game in the South Division to take care of. Last season’s champions Sherwood Colliery beating G3A 3-1 at Debdale Park. Jermaine Jatau, Cameron Pinnock and Owen Tindall on target for Sherwood with a Jacob Pearce penalty the reply for G3A.

The final two games of the week came on Friday. Central Division action at The Windsor Foods Stadium as Worksop Town entertained Retford F.C. in a Bassetlaw Derby. Ellis Bennett and Patrick Pipta scored for Worksop. Harvey Batty replied for Retford but it’s the Tigers who took their first three points of the season leaving Retford having lost both of the derbies they have played this season by the odd goal. Meanwhile in the North Division, Handsworth kicked off their season entertaining another league debutant Jubilee Sports, in what some might have seen as a shock due to Handsworth’s home dominance over the last few years, it was the visitors who took maximum points. The visitors had two goals from substitute Alfie Wright and one strike from Dominic Edwards to thank for a 3-2 victory. The Handsworth goals coming from Daniel Large and a Jubilee player turning into his own goal.

This coming week we have 11 more fixtures that may take your fancy. In the North Division, Emley play Jubilee on Monday evening at Athersley Recreation. There are three more games on Thursday night, Dronfield host Swallownest with both teams looking for their first win. Handsworth are on their travels visiting Penistone and Worsbrough Bridge host Thorncliffe Villa.

In the Central, something has to give as Harworth and Gainsborough meet at Scrooby Road on Wednesday evening. Thursday evening sees Club Thorne travelling the short distance to Goole, whilst both Retford sides are at home. United face Worksop Town in a Bassetlaw derby, whilst FC host Dinnington with one or both sides about to put their first points of the season on the board.

And finally, in the South, there are just two games this week. G3A host Matlock Town on Monday, and Staveley host Sherwood Colliery on Friday. Tuesday’s game between Notts County and Long Eaton has been postponed and Rainworth v Kimberley is later in the season due to Rainworth having requested a free week prior to the start of the season.
