County Cup and League Fixtures
With just two Sunday's left before the Christmas Break it is a worry that a number of teams are looking to postpone there scheduled games due to players apparently not wanting to play for varying reasons. Surely the two week break at Christmas is all the players need and with the whole of winter ahead who knows how many cancellations are going to occure.
The Lincolnshire County Sunday Cup 3rd Round saw Friendship FC and Hilltop Raptors take on Lincoln League opponents, Friendship who have won the trophy in two of the last three season's had far too much quality and ability for their opponents Morning Star winning by an impressive 8 goals to nil. Hilltop Raptors faced last season's losing finalists Hykeham Town and a determined performance by the Hilltop team sadly did not get the reward it probably deserved, a single goal settled the game in Hykeham's favour on a morning that it was just not meant to be for the Hilltop Raptors.
Just one game in the top Division and what a game it proved to be when Cross Keys played Horse & Jockey on the Wroot ground. 12 goals and goal mouth action from the kick off was the most entertaining of games and it was just a pity both teams did not at least get a point their performance deserved. Cross Keys taking the 3 points after a 7 goals to 5 win that was a great advert for local football.
In Division 2 M U S C continue to have their best season for some years and they currently sit on top of the Division. A resounding 10 goals to nil defeat of Gringley Celtics who never really turned up was solid professional performance by the M U S C team. Kings Arms Clarborough BAFC have a 100% Record and against a luckless Blue Bell Rangers the Kings Arms went goal crazy winning by 11 goals to nil and on this showing Kings Arms are probably the team to beat in this Division. AFC Moorgate are improving week by week and a 7 goals to 1 defeat of Westwoodside was another performance that shows just how strong on their day the Moorgate team can be, and they may yet be a threat to all in this Division. Bridon AFC after a somewhat uncertain start to the season have got their selves ito a winning mode recently and a very hard earned 2 goals to 1 win against Retford Sunday FC was every bit as close as the score suggests. Friendship FC Reserves returned to winning ways against a Walkeringham FC team that will play worse and win games the Friendship winning by 2 goals to nil in another very close game.
In Division 3 the leaders Elm Cottage lost their unbeaten record when an impressive Babworth Rovers Blue defeated them by 4 goals to 1 and the Babworth team can be considered a serious challenger for honours in the 3rd Division. The Babworth Rovers Yellow and Thonnock Rangers had a terrific match and the result was always on a knife edge with both teams going all out for the victory. It was Thonnock who just edged the game by 4 goals to 3 in a superb game at this level. Bridon AFC Reserves made it a double for the Club by defeating a spirited Otter FC team by 6 goals to 2 and again Bridon AFC Reserves most certainly can be a threat in this Division. Ship Inn Lions have improved by the week and a 5 goals to 3 home win against a Canutes FC team that fully contributed to another very decent game, both teams deserving credit for their efforts.
