The second rounds of the Derbyshire Senior and Junior Sunday Cups took place at the weekend and in the Senior section the most intriguing tie saw NAPIT THREE side Dronfield Woodhouse face NAPIT ONE leaders and cup favourites Hasland. Once again the latters league form has been superb and on paper, at least, the outcome of the game looked to be a forgone conclusion. However although Hasland eventually prevailed they were pressed all the way by an impressive Woodhouse side who scored through Austin and Mottram, however a brace from Lee Clay and one each for Pete Stubley and James Goodison saw Hasland home. NAPIT ONE Eckington Boys took on West Killamarsh from THREE and a tremendous game saw the sides deadlocked at 5-5 after extra time and in the ensuing penalty shootout Killamarsh held their nerve to win 3-1 and complete a major upset. Killamarsh Juniors Athletic reached the third round following their 2-1 win over struggling Bolsover Town SC, Edge and Parsons the match winners. Joining them are Renishaw MW who beat Hepthorne Lane 5-1, Luke Hatcroft scoring twice and Ashover Vale who beat West Hallam 1-0.
In the Junior Cup Hady Villa suffered their first defeat of the season as they were just edged out by Woodthorpe Inn who play two divisions higher in the NAPIT LEAGUE. Woodthorpes winning goals were scored by Ben Bower and Kevin Thurnham. In another all NAPIT tie Clowne Wanderers Reserves comfortably beat Grassmoor Sports Reserves 6-1, Robson 2, Cooper, Taylor, Peake and Summers the scorers. The North Wingfield derby was won by Gate Inn North Wingfield as two goals from Jay Wilbourn plus strikes from D Kirk, R Kirk and Guy eclipsed two goals from Andy Woolvern for AFC North Wingfield. Other sides going through to round three are Pilsley 2-0 winners at Charlesworth and Chisworth and Lowgates Sports who thrashed Long Eaton Magpies 8-0, White scoring three, Wharton and Herring two and Slater one.
Back in the league and in NAPIT THREE Red Lion Whitt Moor moved up to second in the table thanks to a close run 4-3 victory at Brickmakers. Poole, Beach and Thompson scored for Brickmakers, Brear, Linacre, McTighe and Lunn for RLWM. Creswell Black Diamond hit four against Steelmelters Arms Killamarsh who also scored four to claim a point. Joshua Greveson scored twice for Diamond, Colbert and Hampson once with Batham, Bullement, Hancock and Singh doing likewise for Steelmelters.
It was celebration time for NAPIIT FOUR side Harleys Scarlets who's 5-1 win at Bolsover over Spartans was their first of the season at the ninth attempt. Lee Cook led the way with two goals with Andy Lakin, Mayfield and Bagshshaw completing the much awaited victory. Brimington Park Colts moved up to third with a 5-3 win over Newbold, Mosley hitting a treble J Reed-Aspley a brace.
Just one game in FIVE and Spital took the lead against Hasland Community from the penalty Spot in the opening five minutes but by Half time Hasland had rallied to lead 3-1. Crucially Spital missed an excellent chance to get back into the game after the beak when they were awarded a second penalty. However the spot kick was missed and Hasland, for whom Powers scored a hat trick, went on to cruise to a 7-2 win.
Crown Killamarsh took advantage of NAPIT SIX leaders Hady Villas league inactivity to move above them after two D Brown goals plus one from Page, Holmes and Hackford earned them a hard fought 5-3 win over Markham Arms. Furnace Hill Hurricanes are third after goals from Crofts, Jarvis and Ritchie saw them beat Barlow Kingston Rovers 3-1. Renishaw MW Reserves are a place further back following their 5-2 victory over Boythorpe.
In SEVEN leaders Duckmanton Community were in top form, overpowering Spartans 2NDS 8-2, G Travis hitting a superb hat trick, Nussey, Gallagher, Dove, Reynolds and Hanson also weighing in with goals. Squadron Medical thrashed Dronfield Town 7-0, Glover scoring three, Holmes, Poole, Sutcliffe and Chappell and moved up to third place above Brampton Rovers Reserves who lost 6-4 at Oxcroft Utd, N Grayson another hat trick man. Grassmoor Gladiators were also winners, their victory coming against Boot and Shoe whom they beat 6-4, Dave Canning yet another player to score three along with Ben Hope, Liam Pashley and Craig Pritchard.
