Clay hits 10 goals
Over the years there have been some sensational performances in the NAPIT SUNDAY LEAGUE both team and individual ones. However on Sunday in the second round of the Dey and Co Alma Cup something really special occurred in the game between Staveley All Inn and Hasland in both categories. Not only did Hasland rack up an amazing nineteen goals in the game but the prolific Lee Clay, who has been terrorizing defenders in recent years, surpassed even his own phenomenal goal scoring records by scoring no fewer than ten goals in the tie emulating a feat by Brimington Common born former Bolsover Colliery player Joe Payne, admittedly at a higher level, whose ten goals for Luton Town against Bristol Rovers on the 13th of April 1936 is still a football league record, Town won twelve nil. Throw in a double hat trick for strike partner Ant Lynam and the third of March 2013 will live in the memories of both sets of players, for admittedly different reasons, for years to come.
Another high scoring game in the Alma took place at the home of Brampton Rovers who beat Black Swan by seven goals to two with Will Harcourt, John Aitkin and Callum Dawson each scoring twice. Chesterfield Town also made progress in the competition by beating Laburnum 3-1, A Lally, J Hall and J Rumsey on the score sheet whilst Killamarsh Juniors Athletic beat New Whitt 5-3 after extra time and Creswell Black Diamond prevailed against Hepthorne Lane 5-4 on penalties after the game finished level at 1-1 after ninety minutes and extra time.
Two games took place in the Ace Sports Chatsworth Cup and both were thrillers. In the first Red Lion and Woodthorpe Inn shared eight goals in ninety minutes and extra time, Chris Sharman, Matt Walsh, Craig Hanshaw and Paul Murtagh scoring for Lion, Lee Beer, Luke Linacre, Rob Kelly and Tm McTighe doing likewise for Woodthorpe before Woodthorpe held their nerve to win 4-2 on penalties. In the second game New Inn Newton just squeezed past Harleys Scarlets by three goals to two, the winning goals coming from Gary Wilkinson, Shaun White and Matt Staples.
In the ACL Hutson Cup a goal each from Tom Lowry and Kye Keeling earned Birdholme 2nds a 2-1 win over Grouse.
In the league itself there was just on game in the NAPIT FIRST DIVISION and it was decided in favour of home side Bolsover Town thanks to a first half penalty from Neil Ashley, Creswell Seniors the beaten side.
NAPIT TWO leaders Killamarsh Juniors entertained Oxcroft MW and beat them by five goals to three, Montel Kamara scoring twice for Juniors, Liam Edge, Ryan Hardman and Jack Stanley once. Clowne Wanderers are up to second after two goals each from Josh Clayton and Sam Richardson earned them a 4-0 win over Barrow Hill MC whilst Renishaw Juniors were held to a 1-1 draw by Brampton Rovers JMA, Brandon for JMA, Alberry for Renishaw.
In NAPIT FOUR a superb strike from distance by Dean Lowe put Lowgates ahead against Dronfield Woodhouse, before Lee Mottram levelled minutes later for Woodhouse and that was the end of the scoring, both sides having to settle for a point.
A top of the table clash took place in NAPIT FIVE but firstly Gate Inn North Wingfield have finally ended a winless run that went back fourteen games by beating Goldminers 2-1, J Wilbourne and D Wyman earning their side their first win of the season. Winning has been much more frequent in the cases of Hosetech Mill and Midland Hotel Killamarsh, both sides having won twenty-one times between them before they lined up against each other. Something had to give and it went in favour of the latter who won the clash 3-1. P Revill, A Bullivant and B Singhs goals putting them into pole position at the top of the division. Railway Club Athletic are third after a hat trick from J Reid-Aspley plus a fourth from C Smith earned them a 4-0 win at Brimington Utd. Butchers Arms Spartans Craig Tromans scored twice in his sides 2-1 defeat of Chesterfield Arms, a victory that keeps Spartans promotion aspirations on track.
Into SEVEN and Newbold took a step closer to a possible title success with an emphatic 6-2 win at Old Whittington MW, Gavin Mealan scoring three times, Wayne Gerrity twice and Brett Downs once. Second placed North Wingfield MW were held to a 3-3 draw by Fidlers Rest whilst third placed Holmebrook Tavern 1sts beat Chesterfield Phoenix 3-2, Adam Barker, Nasser Latif and Richard Start scoring the winning goals.
In NAPIT EIGHT seven places and twenty-nine points separated leaders Newbold Sports and Grassmoor Sports Reserves as they lined up to face each other but Grassmoor turned the form book on its head to record a superb 3-0 victory, S Chambers scoring twice in the win, D Hoole once. Second placed Brampton Brewery fared no better than Sports as they slipped to a 2-1 reverse at the hands of Holmebrook Tavern 2nds who, as a result, join them on thirty-seven points, six behind the leaders. Dean Yeomans and Danny ODonnel scoring the vital Tavern goals. Last but not least in a closely fought game a Rickie Fullwood goal was enough to secure a victory for Clay Cross Miners and Diners over opponents Chesterfield Town Reserves.
