Brimington United and Newbold Community Training receive grant
Football Clubs from across Derbyshire have been awarded funding from the Football Foundation through the Grow the Game initiative.
Eight football clubs have been successful with their Grow the Game applications and have been awarded funding to create a new adult team. The eight football clubs have shown a commitment to collectively develop a total of ten new adult teams over the next two years.
Hilton Harriers FC, Mickleover RBL FC, Creswell Community FC, Long Eaton United FC, Tansley Juniors FC, Brimington United FC, Newbold Community Football Training and Holbrook St Michaels Juniors FC have all been successful through the Grow the Game funding.
Derbyshire County FA recently invited those successful clubs to a support evening which gave them the opportunity to ask any questions they may have and receive support whilst going through the grant claim process. It was a great evening and it was fantastic to see those involved excited about the grants and the impact it could have on each club.
Mickleover RBL FC gave insight into how the funding would help them; This has enabled us to expand from four teams to nine and give the older groups the opportunity to advance into adult football.
Newbold Community Football Training also recognised the importance of providing an opportunity for players to move into adult football; "We have provided football provision for several years and this funding provides us with an opportunity to see players move into adult football".
Tansley Juniors FC were very excited to hear they had been successful with the grant; "This is the first ever U21 side for the club- great news!".
Derbyshire County FA will support the clubs to develop their new adult teams and the scheme will have a positive impact on the growth of adult football. The Football Foundation's Grow the Game scheme has placed emphasis on the adult game.
Stephen Wapplington from Brimington United FC hopes that this years success will send a positive message to other clubs looking to develop adult teams in the future; "Whilst its great for the community of Brimington, it also acts as an incentive for other adult clubs in the Chesterfield Sunday League".
Keely Brown, County Development Manager, Derbyshire County FA was delighted with this opportunity, "Derbyshire County FA has been pleased to support these clubs and volunteers who are keen, enthusiastic and committed to growing the adult game in Derbyshire. We congratulate them all and look forward to working with them and supporting them with their projects over the forthcoming season".
Congratulations to all those clubs that have applied and been successful, we wish you the best of luck with your funding.
The Football Foundations Grow the Game Scheme provides grants of up to £1,500 for the creation of new football teams and coaching qualifications, with money provided by the Premier League and The FA
