FC Britannia Penalties Secure Sunday Senior Cup
A cup final between the two teams who occupy the top two places in the NAPIT Division 1, of the Chesterfield and District Sunday Football league, was always going to be a competitive game.
In the first half, FC Britannia had most of the play and as early as the 10th minute a cross from the FC Britannia right saw Nico Degriolamo head the ball just over the Haslands Devonshire bar.
A minute later Callam Lythams persistence paid off when he won the ball in the corner from the Haslands full back, crossed the ball into the box to see Nathan Whitehead miss hit his shot, which struck his own player Chris Slatterey standing on the edge of the goal area, causing the ball to roll over the goal line for Britannia's first. 1-0
In the 14th minute the first real attack by Hasland saw a ball played through the FC Britannia defence for Danny Claridge to run onto, but a good challenge by Asa Ingall on the edge of his own penalty area saw the ball go out for a corner.
A minute later Mario Slater headed the ball over the top of the Hasland defenders, for Lytham to run onto, but the advancing Hasland keeper, Andy Topham, cleared the ball off the toes of Lytham.
Britannia were looking strong with Nathan Whitehead timing his run perfectly to beat the Haslands off side trap, only to see his shot sail over the bar. Straight from the goal kick, the ball was collected by Hasland's Claridge who beat the FC Britannia full back and saw his cross land perfectly at the feet of Mark Houghton who hit his shot over the bar from 25 yards.
On 25 minutes, a cross from the FC Britannias right wing saw the ball land at the feet of Lytham, on the edge of the goal area to tap home unchallenged from 6 yards for number two. 2-0
In the 31st minute a square pass to Whitehead 30 yards out, in a central position, saw his shot beat the outstretched hands of Topham and into the top corner of the net for number 3. 3-0
In the dying minutes of the first half a corner by Thomas Poole from Hasland's right, met Ryan Booker in the area who headed home low to the FC Britannias keeper, James Bradburys, right hand side.
Half Time 3 - 1
Hasland Devonshire came out a different team in the second half, keeping hold of the ball for longer periods. Through this they began to take control and in the 52nd minute Claridge played a ball into the path of Lee Clay, Jaimie Simpson made a fantastic tackle to then clear the ball for a corner.
In the 56th minute Clay played a ball behind the FC Britannia defence for Pete Stubley, whose shot was well saved by the FC Britannia James Bradbury.
Hasland were getting closer and it wasn't until Mark Houghton received the ball from a short corner on the left, dribbled the ball to the corner of the penalty area and shot low to Bradburys left that they got their reward. With the shot making it past Bradbury and hitting the back of the net. This was turning into a fantastic game. 3-2
Five minutes later, Stubley crossed a ball into the FC Britannia goal area which saw Thomas Poole, who was on his own, tap in from 6 yards, to make it 3-3.
The game now became more of a contest with both sides making good chances and in return both keepers making good saves.
In the closing minutes, Hasland's Clay received the ball with his back to goal, he flicked the ball up and spun round and volleyed from 15 yards just wide of the right hand post.
The scores finished level on three goals each, which resulted in a penalty shout out with FC Britannia coming out winners by 3-1 to lift the Derbyshire Senior Sunday Cup.
