The NAPIT SUNDAY LEAGUE season got underway on Sunday and in NAPIT ONE defending champions Hasland, looking to win their third consecutive title, made a winning start with a 2-1 victory over Hepthorne Lane. Britannia, who had a superb season last time around, eased past Bolsover Town SC thanks to two strikes from Chambers and one each from Fields and Slater in a 4-2 win. Killamarsh Juniors Athletic hammered Eckington Boys 6-1, Clowne Wanderers beat Brampton Rovers 2-1 in their debut game in the top flight whilst Creswell drew 3-3 with Whitecotes.

New club FC Brimington’s first ever league NAPIT league game saw them well beaten by Grassmoor Sports[6-2] with George Bowman getting his season off to a flyer by registering a treble, Dean Spencer hitting two, Morton once. Elsewhere in TWO Barrow Hill MC made a dream start putting eight past Wingerworth Barley Mow. Aidan Ordidge and Ryan Wain both helping themselves to hat tricks in the win. Silver Birches beat Charlies Bar Clay Cross 3-0, Woodside won 4-2 at Hollingwood, Adam Fordham another hat trick man, Ashover Vale beat Brampton Rovers JMA 2-1, Marsh and Young with the winning goals and in a nail biter New Whitt edged out Tibshelf Town 3-2, Morton scoring twice Burton once.

In NAPIT THREE West Killamarsh and Bolsover shared seven goals but not the points as the former won 4-3. Newton George and Dragon took on newcomers Beechers Brook and beat them 3-2, Liddle, Reilly and Spencer’s goals cancelling out two goals for Beechers Barber. Red Lion Whitt Moor beat Dronfield Woodhouse by the same margin, Linacre, Strong and Smith on target and Hosetech also won 3-2 at home to Steelmelters Arms Killamarsh. Yet another close game transpired at Double Top where Brickmakers Oliver Davies scored the only goal of the game. The most decisive winners in this division where Matlock Town Wanderers who beat Creswell Black Diamond 4-1 with substitute Danny Barlow scoring twice.

New Whitt B made a superb start in FOUR, Lock scoring a hat trick, Wainwright two, Scott and Shaw one each as they trounced Chesterfield Arms 7-1. Pilsley won a close game at the Castle Leisure Park by two goals to one against hosts Spartans, Bowers and Prior with the winning goals. Steelmelters beat Harleys Scarlets 3-2 [Ward 2, McGuiness], Woodthorpe Inn were also winners, beating Lowgates Sports Club 2-1, as were North Wingfield, 4-2 victors over Dronfield Miners.

In FIVE the goals flew in at regular intervals in the game between Palterton Sporting and Old Whittington MW with the latter winning 6-4, Clarke, T Eyre, Smith, Perkins and Taylor twice the OWMW match winners. Not such a close encounter at Holmehall 1ST where the visitors North Wingfield MW recoded a crushing 8-0 victory with S Hegarty helping himself to four goals. Clowne Wanderers Reserves made a winning start, beating Brampton Brewery 3-0 as did Newbold Sports, their winning start coming at the expense of Spital whom they beat 4-0. Finally in FIVE Dunston Rovers played out a goal less draw with Brimington Utd.

Two new clubs took up the challenge in SIX and both lost. Hasland WMC were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Fidlers Rest [Germany, Gregory], whilst Renishaw MW Reserves lost 4-2 at Crown Killamarsh. Hady Villa were rampant against Markham Arms hammering them 8-1. Bulls Head Old Whitt and Holmehall 2ND shared eight goals and the points, Dale Vella scoring three for the Head. Barlow Kingston Rovers outplayed Boythorpe to win 5-2 despite having O Jones red carded, Cunniffe, Morton and Stevenson twice, scoring for the ten men, whilst Clay Cross Athletic beat Dronfield Wanderers 2-0.

Onto NAPIT SEVEN and the new clubs fared no better than their counterparts in SIX. Oxcroft Utd have struggled in their first two seasons in the league however their third season looks more promising after they beat one of the aforementioned new clubs Glapwell Gladiators on opening day 7-3, Retallic and Roe both scoring twice. Dronfield Town’s debut ended in a 4-1 defeat to Duckmanton Community. Squadron Medical’s game with Miners and Diners saw eight goals scored, unfortunately for the hosts, five of them by Miners and Diners, Pears with three of them.
