Sunday's NAPIT LEAGUE fixture list was all but obliterated by severe overnight frost with just seven games going ahead. Of the games that did take place the most intriguing was the top of the the table clash in FIVE between leaders Brimington Utd and third placed Brimwood Utd. At the start of play both clubs, along with Holmehall 1st were separated by goal difference, each having accrued twenty-five points to date.
On a snow covered pitch at Bolsover Town Social Club the game was a massive one for both clubs, made even more intriguing by the fact both sides had lost seven days earlier. The first half was more or less a stalemate with Brimington United just about shading the half, pressurising Brimwood with some good attacking football played on a difficult surface. In the second half Brimwood began to look more threatening themselves but neither side looked capable of breaking the deadlock and the game looked to be heading for a goal-less draw. However after some excellent play by Alex Howard down Brimington's left hand side an excellent cross was headed home by Brimington's top scorer Chris Marshall to hand his side the lead. After the goal Brimwood pushed on and only an excellent save by Jordan Renshaw in the Brimington goal maintained his sides slim advantage as Brimington United held on to go three points clear at the top of the table. Also in FIVE Barlow Kingston Rovers entertained Old Whittington MW who shaded the game by two goals to one.
In FOUR leaders Newbold extended their advantage over second placed Chesterfield Arms to five points after they beat Oaks FC by six goals to one on a bone hard Holmebrook Valley pitch. Newbold's Danny Keenan obviously found the tricky conditions to his liking as he rifled home a hat trick for the leaders whilst Luke Whitbread, Dan Bradbury and Callum Dovison also hit the target. Oxcroft Utd and Gate Inn North Wingfield shared four goals and the points in a 2-2 draw with Ash Grayson scoring both Utd goals, Stuart Taylor and Dave Kirk scoring for Gate.
Up in NAPIT THREE New Whitt B enhanced their promotion prospects as they beat Brampton Oak Sports in a high scoring game by six goals to three. Wayne Gerrity did score twice for Oak along with Mark Miller but Dan Lock's treble plus two from Jack Yeomans and one fromLuke Nunn won the day for New Whitt.
SEVEN saw two games go ahead with both being decided by the odd goal in nine.
In the Brimington United Shoes game a hat trick by Andrew Mosley plus a goal each for Mark Mowbray and Richard Rigley were enough to edge out Renishaw Rangers TFC 5-4 in what was the Shoes toughest test of the campaign to date. Full credit must go to bottom side Rangers for providing a stern test for the division's top side. Dronfield Town were also beaten by the same margin by Brimington Club. Lewis Siddall and Luke Hutton scored twice for Club, Paul Buxton once whilst Scott Oxley two, Jonathan Wild and Ash Jackson scored Town's goals.
