The rain finally relented and an almost complete round of fixtures went ahead with just three NAPIT SUNDAY LEAGUE games being postponed with pride of place going to Hasland FC who once again reached the final of the Derbyshire Senior Sunday Cup Final in fine style by outplaying Long Eaton Sunday side Corner Pin to win by four goals to one. Hasland’s success in both league and cup competitions in recent years has been phenomenal but not surprising when you take into account the number of quality players at their disposal. One such player is Lee Clay who is undoubtedly one of the top strikers in Derbyshire Sunday football at the moment and once again he produced the goods by scoring twice, James Senior is another top player and he scored one goal with Claridge adding the fourth.

NAPIT TWO title chasers Grassmoor Sports have enjoyed a fine season to date in the league and in the Dey and Co Alma Cup they dumped NAPIT ONE side Hepthorne Lane out of the competition thanks to strikes from Naughton and Walters. Fellow TWO side Tibshelf Town also beat top division opponents in the form of Creswell, Cousins scoring twice, Harris once. Clowne Wanderers progressed to the next round as a Josh Clayton goal was enough to see off the challenge of Renishaw MW. FC Britannia took on second tier Ashover Vale and beat them 4-1, Nico Degirolamo scored three times, D Keenan adding the fourth. Also through to the next round are Eckington Boys, 5-3 winners at Wingerworth Barley Mow, C Savage rattling in a hat trick and Silver Birches, 4-0 winners at New Whitt T Poole scoring a couple of the goals

NAPIT THREE leaders West Killamarsh are safely through to the next round of the Chatsworth Cup following their 4-2 defeat of Pilsley. Wests four goal scorers were Burgin, Edge, Jessop and Reaney. Joining them from THREE will be Hollingwood Athletic who beat Dronfield Miners 1-0 an A Gorman own goal winning it for Athletic and Newton George and Dragon who easily beat Palterton Sporting Club 7-1, Hadley scoring three, Webster two, Rodgers and Gibb one. However one NAPIT THREE side who will not be joining them are Dronfield Woodhouse who were beaten 4-1 at NAPIT FOUR Newbold. The latter are third from bottom of their division but goals from Garrity, Smith, Lewis and Foster earned them a superb win. Brimington Park Colts progressed at the expense of Gate Inn North Wingfield whom they beat by four goals to nil, Bingham, Browne, Moseley and Patilla scoring. Woodthorpe Inn reached the Derbyshire Junior Sunday Cup Final seven days earlier and two goals each from Lynam and Bower plus one each from Hanshaw and Fearn secured them a 6-4 victory over Lowgates Sports Club and a place in the next round.

The big game in the Hutson Cup pitted NAPIT SIX leaders Hady Villa against SEVEN leaders Duckmanton Community who have won a total of twenty-six league games between them and lost only one to date. An exciting encounter was anticipated and that is what ensued as they played out a seven goal thriller with Duckmanton coming out on top by four goals to three. Jack Weaver, Graham Travis, Jake Tinsley and Steve Johnson hit the winning goals with Wayne Coupe scoring twice, Darryl Booker once for the losers. Oxcroft United also beat higher league opposition, Markham Arms 5-2, Ross Murcott hitting a superb hat trick. Dronfield Wanderers beat Grassmoor Sports Reserves 4-1, Norrie scoring twice, Robbins and Stevens once whilst Holmehall 2nd lost 6-0 to Fidlers Rest for whom Palmer scored three Stokes twice and Maidens once. The all SIX game between Renishaw Miners Welfare Reserves and Furnace Hill Hurricanes was the only game in the entire cup programme which needed extra time to produce a winner. Hurricanes took the lead in the first half through Travis, Clayton levelling immediately. In the second period Travis restored Hurricanes advantage only for Clayton to level again. Richie put the Hurricanes ahead for a third time in extra time but once again Renishaw levelled through Poulton. With penalties looming Travis completed his hat trick and this time there was no way back for Renishaw.

In NAPIT THREE Creswell Black Diamond improved their chances of avoiding relegation thanks to Gary Lindley who scored the only goal of the game to defeat Beechers Brook.

AFC North Wingfield moved to the top of FOUR with a 5-3 victory over New Whitt B. New Whitt battled bravely however goals from Bates, Collins, A Smith, Wazelenko and Woolvern. They are a point ahead of second placed Dronfield Miners who have three games in hand. Bottom club Chesterfield Arms took on second from bottom Spartans two Ash Crowther goals plus a third from Virgillio earned them a victory which saw the sides swap league positions.

Two games took place in FIVE with second placed Hasland Community beating Spital 2-1 to replace Clowne Wanderers as leaders, although Wanderers have played four games fewer. Community’s match winners were Powers and Smith. At the bottom Brimington United moved to within three points of Old Whittington MW after beating them convincingly by six goals to one. Carl Newell, Symon Farendon and Nathan Cope scored first half goals for United but United’s man of the match was undoubtedly Darren Parkinson who hit a second half treble.

A Sunday League rarity occurred in NAPIT SEVEN at Hillstown, a goal less draw as Grassmoor Gladiators held second placed Brampton Rovers Reserves. Also in seven Spartans 2nd defeated Boot and Shoe by two goals to nil which were scored by Buxton and Ashall.
