Referee Brittany Smith took charge as Renishaw Miners Welfare’s 2013/14 season belatedly got underway with the visit of early season NAPIT ONE leaders Killamarsh Juniors Athletic to the Golden Ball ground. Athletic’s fine start to their campaign continued with a 3-2 victory, however the hosts gave a good account of themselves before falling to goals from Parsons, Wheeldon and Edge. Defending champions Hasland have played a game less than the leaders but a 2-0 victory at Eckington Boys was their third in as many starts with Clay and Booker scoring the winning goals. AFC Whitecote’s Jez Mitchell was in top form in their contest with Clowne Wanderers, hitting four goals to add to efforts from Mason and Wright to secure a 6-3 victory, Glenn Lowton twice and Ben Carless replying for Wanderers. Britannia outclassed Hepthorne Lane to race to a 7-1 victory, D Chambers hitting a treble in the win. Fellow NAPIT ONE side Brampton Rovers were in action in the Taylor and Emmet Sunday Senior Cup against Pack Horse Inn to whom they lost 4-0.

Barrow Hill Memorial Club’s perfect start to the season continued in NAPIT TWO with a 4-3 win at Hollingwood, their fourth in four starts, Cooper scoring twice, Hadfield and Whittaker once. Woodside visited Ashover Vale and came away with the points as Adam Fordham scored twice in a 3-1 victory. The Wingerworth derby between Barley Mow and Silver Birches saw four goals scored by the former whilst the latter failed to score and had two players red carded to boot, not that that will concern Ryan Illingworth and Chris Gilson who both scored twice for the winners. Hannaby was on target for New Whitt as was Naughton for opponents Grassmoor Sports as the sides shared the points.

Worrying times for NAPIT THREE side Double Top who have lost their opening four games, the latest defeat coming at the hands of Matlock Town Wanderers. Wanderers were rarely extended as goals from Walker with two, Halksworth, Mellor and Stokes saw them cruise to a 5-0 victory. Wanderers are second in the table after the win a point behind Red Lion Whitt Moor who won 2-0 at Newton George and Dragon, Kelly and Linacre the match winners. Brickmakers, who won 2-0 at Creswell Black Diamond are third [Thompson. Poole] whilst Dronfield Woodhouse and Beechers Brook thrashed Steelmelters Arms Killamarsh and Hosetech respectively, both by eight goals to one. S Austin led the way for Woodhouse with a well taken hat trick, P Morton joining in with two goals, Loftus, Simpson and an own goal completing the rout. For Beechers Barber, Bexton and Bally all registered doubles, Bray and Parsons one each.

In FOUR two sides have one hundred per cent records, New Whitt B who have won all four of their games and Harleys Scarlets who have lost all four of theirs. New Whitt have now hit twenty goals this season, T Lock and J Lock netting goals nineteen and twenty in their sides 2-1 win over Lowgates Sports Social Club. Scarlets latest setback came at Dronfield Miners who beat them 3-1, Tom Collier, Ross Bateman and Nathan Turner’s goals doing the damage. Pilsley took on AFC North Wingfield and won thanks to first half goals from man of the match Tom Newman, Dillingham and Prior. Spartans eased past Chesterfield Arms, Bryant scoring two, Moseley and Tromans one, Woodthorpe Inn beat Newbold 3-1[ Bower, Walsh, Russell] and the game between Steelmelters and Brimington Park Colts was a real cracker with Steelmelters just prevailing by five goals to four. Jack Yeomans took centre stage for the winners, scoring three times, Paul Roe and Kelly adding the other two goals. Rigley and Smith both scored twice for Colts who finished the game with ten men after Stephen Reed-Aspley was invited to take an early bath by the referee.

Two sides are five points clear in FIVE, Newbold Sports and Clowne Wanderers Reserves who have now both won four on the bounce following victories over Palterton Sporting Club and Brimington United. Sports who have a slightly better goal difference than Wanderers, beat PSC 4-1 with goal ace David Brent scoring twice to take his tally for the season to ten. Wanderers humbled Brimington 6-0, Crawford and Voutishas both scoring twice. Dunston Rovers remain winless after A Smith scored four, T Eyre two for opponents Old Whittington MW in a 6-1 reverse, Grocutt netting a consolation goal. Two games were drawn in the division, the ones between Brampton Brewery and Hasland Community [3-3] and the clash between North Wingfield MW and Spital [1-1]. Nowak, Harden and Hardman scored for the Brewers, Holt, Neath and Moore for Community, Ritchie Henson for Wingfield and Nigel Walton for Spital. There was no shortage of goalmouth incident in the game between Holmehall 1ST and Gate Inn North Wingfield which Gate won 4-3. West scored twice for Holmehall as did Guy for Gate Inn whilst Holmehall’s Tom Allen was red carded.
Hady Villa beat Holmehall 2ND 6-0 in SIX to maintain their one hundred per cent winning start to the season, Craig Smedley grabbing himself four goals in the win. Beety, Stephens and Whitehouse were the Crown Killamarsh scorers in their 3-0 success at Furnace Hill Hurricanes, Hasland WMC won 4-1 at bottom club Boythorpe, Bower twice, Holland and Bannister with the winning goals and Markham Arms were also winners, Hemstock and Newson’s goals eclipsing Bannisters effort for opponents Bulls Head Old Whitt.

Duckmanton Community top SEVEN following their straightforward 6-0 win at Britannia Tupton, Nussey [2], Brown [2], Haye and Wetherall the scorers in a one sided affair. Clay Cross Miners and Diners also hit six this time against Brimington Club who scored twice. For the Clay Cross side both Lunn and Fullwood scored hat tricks. Oxcroft United’s un-beaten start came to an end with a 4-3 reverse at Boot and Shoe for whom Jacob Oaks, Porter, Nadin and Adlington were on target. Dronfield Town also lost by the odd goal in seven, slipping to defeat at home to Brampton Rovers Reserves for whom Harrison, Montague, Branson and Morris scored. Two Liam Pashley goals earned Glapwell Gladiators an excellent 2-1 win over Spartans 2ND whilst finally Squadron Medical produced a clinical display to beat Grassmoor Sports Reserves 5-2, Glover scoring twice, Chappell, Watkinson and Sutcliffe once each.
