The inclement weather decimated the fixtures but credit to the council for keeping pitches open for the referees to make the decision whether the pitch were playable, thankfully two H. English Mem. Trophy ties were played along with three Division One games and one Division Two game.
The two cup games produced nineteen goals. Reddish Phoenix and Edgeley Villa Hatters serving up an odd goal of thirteen thriller. Colm Burke opened the scoring from a Troy Gallagher to give Phoenix the lead. Hatters drew level Oscar Dennis the scorer from a Tom Jones pass. The game flowed from end to end but it was Phoenix that took their chances better with goals from Sam Findlow and Liam Hindle to give them a 3-1 half time lead. Liam Ellis from a Kurtes Curran cross netted the Hatters second. That stung Phoenix back into action scoring three more goals, Sam Findlow scoring twice and James Davis getting his second to make it 6-2. It was then the turn of the Hatters to add three to the score as well. Tom Jones with a shot from outside the area then used his head to net his second. A penalty struck home by Kenzie Daniels added the fifth. Looking for the equaliser they were caught out on the break, Sean Daley scoring Phoenix’s seventh. Daniels ended the scoring with a pass from Bobby Cornwall.
In the other cup tie Stockport Cosmos who have not had the best of seasons took the lead away at Woodhouse Park, Adam Halliwell the scorer. The home side hit back and equalised with a goal from Bailey Pearson who was put through by Callum Stewart. It was evenly fought with Halliwell giving his team the edge with his second goal to give them the half time lead. Woodhouse struggled with the wind in the faces in the second half. Halliwell completed his hat trick. Mike Keegan got Cosmos’s fourth, Lee Wilson from the penalty spot added the fifth and final goal. Woodhouse’s best chance of a second goal came from Harry Goddard- Hessing who got himself free but saw the Cosmos keeper keep his shot out with a good save..
There were three games played in Division One and one in Division Two.
Hillgate FC with their 6-1 win over Reddish WMC go joint leaders with Offerton Green. Dale Hester opened the scoring to give Hillgate the lead then Callum Bateson added the second. Nathan Wheeldon pulled one back with a shot in the top of the home net corner. Both keepers Hillgate’s Leighton Bregano and Club’s Cameron Gresty had produced some excellent saves. It was Hillgate who took control in the second spell. Arron Dwyer netted a hat trick, Kaden Sampson also got on the score sheet.
Romiley FC getting over their disappointment Cheshire FA cup defeat last Sunday came back strong after going behind at home to Mountfield and run out deserved winners. When Romiley failed to clear a Mountfield free kick George Mills found their net with a well struck shot. Goals from Carl Pendlebury and Liam Millen soon put them in control and the half time lead. Bobby Lofthouse curling corner got the third, he then provided the pass for Pendlebury to end the scoring with his second goal.
Stockport Vikings had a comfortable win away at Lostock Rangers. Niall Scott was their top marksman with four of the seven goals they scored. Sharing the other three were Tyler Williams, Tyler Bryan and Gabriel Vanterpool. Sam Ormston and Jacob Simpson were Lostock’s scorers.
The only game played in Division Two was a top of the table clash the leaders Stockport Orion and second placed Edgeley Villa. During the ninety minutes both teams showed why they are in that lofty position. There were chances at both ends before Kevin Boswell found the top corner of Orion’s net to open the scoring. The lead did not last long as a move from their own half saw Orion draw level with James Burns equaliser. The passing movements of both teams were sharp and decisive keeping the defenders on their toes. Villa’s captain Jack Atkinson started the move that gave his side the lead, his through ball found Howie Thomas- Leech who crossed for Kyle Clarke to volley home. Rick Kelly then had his shot well saved by the Orion keeper but he could do nothing with Leech’s goal early in the second half that made it 3-1. Jack Atkinson then got his name on the scoresheet with Villa’s fourth when Orion failed to clear their lines. But they hit back and with a flowing move saw Saul Hogan coolly slot home his side’s second goal. Then with a blink of an eye Villa netted their fifth goal. Right from the kick off the ball was played back to Jack Atkinson who spotted the Orion keeper off his line and nonchalantly floated the ball over his head into the back of the net. The scoring ended when Tom Hannan sent Howie Thomas- Leach through with a lob over the keeper.
