Youth Plate 1st round, saw close fought tussles, and plenty of goals.

Action from the Go2Day West Cheshire League's Youth Plate 1st round, saw close fought tussles, and plenty of goals. Top scorers were Maghull B, who romped home 10-1 against Mossley Hill Ath., inspired by doubles from Nathan Moffitt and Adam Ross. Further efforts from Jack Jenkinson, Will Hoey, John Clarkson, Adam Howes, Billy Brennan and Dan Dearing completed the statistics with Lewis Melling on target for the hosts, WRITES ERNIE MCDONALD.
Goals from Cammell Laird 1907's Leo Patten and Bobby Barker were cancelled out by replies from AFC Knowsley's Dan Donachie and Jamie Murphy before Knowsley progressed 3-2 on pens. It was a similar theme, after respective marksmen in Litherland Remyca's 3-3 stalemate with Vauxhall Motors, were Elliot Sullivan (2) Ollie Laing, Kenzy Colegate, James Dawson and Kyle Robinson. Spot kicks thereafter sealed a 5-4 result in favour of the Remy. Again another tie decided on penalties saw Neston Nomads get the better of Runcorn Linnets. In normal time, efforts from Nomads' Nate Jones and Lucas Robertswood were negated by replies from Linnets' Ellis Butterworth and Gabe Connor before Nomads posted a 4-3 result.
South Liverpool Res. scored through Adam Shelton (2) and Bobby Murphy but were denied further progress in the Northern Cup, after they capitulated 5-3 at Claybrow.
Division One high fliers, Mossley Hill Ath. suffered a similar fate in the LCFA Challenge Cup 3rd round, after they lost 3-2 at FC King Harry, despite a fine double from Nathan Peet.
FC Kirkby were too good on the day for Chester Nomads Res. in the West Cheshire Shield 2nd round, and earned their passage after Brendan Rawcliffe (2) Mike McHugh and Jay Tyrer left their calling cards in a 4-1 victory. Cam Clark obliged for the visitors.
It was a closer call however, for rival Division Three title contenders, Cammell Laird 1907, who were indebted to a solitary strike from Ben Crossley which sealed Rainhill Town Res.' fate.
In the Pyke Cup 2nd round, despite goals from Carl Lownsborough (2) and Ant Dunleavy, Rainhill Town's senior side conceded a place in the semi-finals to Newton who emerged 9-3 victors.
On the league scene, Mersey Royal were elevated to sixth place in Division One, after efforts from Tom Haynes and Ryan Coles clinched a 2-1 decision over Aintree Villa who responded through Dylan Lawless. The same scoreline earned Capenhurst Villa maximum spoils from their encounter with Litherland Remyca Res. thanks to efforts from Steve Rowlands and Luke Bradley. The visitors had Anthony Griffith in reply. Battling Heswall secured another point in their bid to avoid relegation, when goals from Jack Wood and Joel Robinson matched replies from Helsby's Tom Waring and Sam Stephens. New leaders in Division Two, are Mallaby, who eclipsed third placed Hooton, 5-2, courtesy of goals from Kian Hamm (2) Ellis Byrne, Evra Yao and James Fee. The Hoot's marksmen were Joel Whalley and Cole Saunders. A Nathan Davidson double, allied to an own goal set Neston Nomads up for a 3-1 win against Marshalls Res. and there was no stopping Runcorn Sports, Steve Woodward (2) Stephen Butler (2) James O'Connor. Reece Harwood and Kier Fenlon sharing the goals in Saturday's 7-1 rout of Higher Bebington Kelma, whose consolation was scored by Andy Noonan. Elsewhere, efforts from Adam Wood and Callum Walker failed to prevent Maghull Res. from going down 3-2 at home to Aintree Villa Res., Joe Nuttall, Tom Stewart and Layton McPhearson securing the points for Villa
