Mossley Hill Ath. upped the ante in their quest for a first Go2Day West Cheshire League Division One title, after getting the better of champions for the past two seasons, Mersey Royal. A close fought contest was settled 2-1 in Mossley's favour, thanks to efforts from Will Maddock and Nathan Peet and that result saw the Liverpool based challengers leapfrog Maghull into top spot. Connor Doyle was the visitors' marksman, WRITES ERNIE MCDONALD.
Fourth placed Newton stayed in contention after Ryan Beigan obliged with both goals in Saturday's 2-0 eclipse of Marshalls, while Vauxhall Motors Res. ended the year on a positive note, and escaped from bottom spot, when a hat trick from Will Mountfield inspired a 5-0 victory at Litherland Remyca Res. who now prop up the rest of the table. Further efforts from Adetunji Ogundeji and Kami Bisensio lo completed the scoreline for the Motormen.
With Division Two devoid of fixtures for the day, the only other action at the weekend took place in Division Three where promotion challengers, Cammell Laird 1907 Res. eroded FC Kirby's lead at the top to a single point, with two games in hand, following a fine 3-1 result at West Kirby Res., confirmed by goals from Jack Kelly (2) and Kieran Hughes. Zach Phillips replied for the hosts. Despite efforts from Josh McEwan and Tom McBride, Capenhurst Villa Res. were second best at local rivals, Ellesmere Port Town U23's who emerged 5-2 victors courtesy of goals from Paris Alleyne (2) Scott Richardson, Emanuel Olaitan and Darius Woolridge.
