‘A Star Of His Generation’: Tributes Flood In For Linklaters’ Wagstaff

It is with deep sadness and numbness to announce the untimely passing of Linklaters partner and player, Iain Wagstaff, one of the firm’s most prominent deal lawyers.

Iain, who was only 44, passed away on the weekend of 31 August following a cycling accident.

The corporate and private equity specialist, leaves a beloved wife and two children, with whom on behalf of London Legal League, we offer our deepest condolences and wish them all the strength in the world to help them in the following future and coping with this tragedy.

I spoke with John Wilson, President of the League, and Secretary Bola Anthony earlier today who echoed their sadness and recalled the support Iain had given Linklaters and the League when he was the fixture secretary and also as a LLL Representative Team player.

Our condolences extend also, to friends, colleagues of Iain's at Linklaters, and indeed many others within the industry who had experienced Iain as a character and will be able to reflect on many happy experiences to remember him that way.

I first met him when I joined the league 17 years ago and recall the last time we were to meet when Iain played, perhaps now fittingly, his last game, in last season's cup final and I pulled his leg that he was still playing.

Ironically, Linklaters lost that game on penalties, but the ever reliable Waggy, could be counted on to slot away his penalty.

He will be sorely missed.

RIP “Waggy”

David Cross
Fixture Secretary.
